You've come to the right place if you fall into any of these categories:

You need a new website
You have a website but aren't 100% thrilled with the design, the content organization or the quality of the writing
You have a website you love but don't have a dependable webmaster to update it

A website has three key components: the graphic design, the technological framework and the content. Together, these create the look, the feel, the tone of your website — in short, your image. Of course, in business — and in life — image is everything. OK, maybe not everything, but it means a heck of a lot.

A snazzy design won't cut it if the links don't work well or the pages don't load quickly, if your content is disorganized or dull, if the writing is sloppy or riddled with grammatical errors. At the same time, sharp content and technological perfection can't save a design that falls flat.

Paul The Computer Guy — along with his wife, Suzannne The Website Wordsmith (see below) — will help you realize your vision on all fronts, so that visitors to your site will say, "Wow!" Here's a closer look at the services that Paul and Suzanne offer.

PAUL'S PART: WEBSITE DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT

If you want to create a website from scratch, Paul will take you through all of the following steps. If your site simply needs a facelift, he'll help you with the steps that apply.

STEP ONE: REGISTRATION AND OTHER BASICS

Paul will register your domain name and guarantee that you get the best value available in a domain and website-hosting plan. He will also make sure that traffic finds your site by listing it with Web crawlers and directory services such as Google and Yahoo.

STEP TWO: BRAINSTORMING

You and Paul will discuss, in depth, what you want in a website. He'll ask you lots of questions about colors you like, pictures or objects that grab you and, more generally, what kind of image you want to project. The more input you can offer the better. Spend some time surfing other websites and jot down the addresses of three or four sites you really like, as well as sites you dislike. Think hard about what elements of these sites really entice, impress or repel you.

Paul will also ask you to fill out a short form about the content you want on your home page. For example, how many navigation bars do you need? Approximately how much copy will you have, and how do you want it broken up? What are the key headlines? (If you need help sorting this out, Suzanne The Website Wordsmith can help.)

With all that info at hand, Paul will then create a draft of your home-page design.

STEP THREE: REFINING

You and Paul will go back and forth until you are 100% satisfied with the home-page design. From there, Paul will create a template for the sub-pages.

STEP FOUR: DEVELOPING

Once the design is settled, you'll e-mail Paul the content for your site. (Again, Suzanne offers writing and editing services to help on this front.) Paul will then work his magic, making your vision a reality. He guarantees that your site will be technologically perfect.

What happens when you need to update your site? You have several options. If you're a do-it-yourselfer, Paul can create a framework that allows you to update your home page (or at least certain aspects of it) on your own as often as you like. Or, you can simply e-mail Paul with your changes, and he'll implement them immediately.

SUZANNE'S PART: CREATING AND PERFECTING YOUR CONTENT

If writing isn't your forte, creating your website's content can be a real headache. You need catchy headlines, concise descriptions of your products or services, bios that are impressive as well as appealing. You also need a writing style that reflects your personality or corporate image.

Sound overwhelming? Don't waste your time staring at a blank computer screen! Let Suzanne The Website Wordsmith translate your ideas into words.

There are three main steps to creating your content. Suzanne can offer as much help as you need at each step of the way.

STEP ONE: ORGANIZATION

Like a library or a grocery store, a website has to be easy to navigate. You have to make it easy for your visitors to find what they need; otherwise, they'll get lost or frustrated. Remarkably, many websites are utterly confusing. You can't find the contact phone number or get back to your favorite page. Sometimes, you can't even figure out the purpose of the site!

Suzanne can advise you on how to structure your content. She'll help you decide how many navigation bars to use and what to call them, how many sub-pages to have and how to break up your content with boxes and bullet points.

STEP TWO: WRITING

Once you've settled on a structure, Suzanne will help you write copy that's short and snappy, as Web content needs to be. (There's no room for War And Peace on the Web!) She'll also make sure your content has just the right style and tone — whether you're aiming to sound friendly and informal or whether you're seeking a more serious, authoritative image. Suzanne will help you find your voice!

What's Suzanne's voice like? Well, you can judge for yourself: Suzanne wrote the copy for this website as well as her own site, SuzanneSchlosberg.com. Below you'll find a short bio of Suzanne.

STEP THREE: EDITING

If you've written the copy yourself and are basically happy with it, Suzanne can add that professional touch, punching it up, trimming the fat, making the language more vibrant. She's also an expert on the nitty-gritty stuff, like grammar and punctuation, and is available to proofread your content. There's only so much that Spellcheck can do!

MORE ABOUT SUZANNE THE WEBSITE WORDSMITH

If Paul's a computer geek, Suzanne is a word geek. Back in the seventh grade, she actually enjoyed diagramming sentences. Once, while stranded for a week in the Russian Arctic, she passed the time playing Scrabble on a board she fashioned out of scrap paper and duct tape.

For 16 years, Suzanne has made her living playing with words. Newspaper reporter, magazine editor, website copywriter, journalism instructor, book author — Suzanne has done it all. She is perhaps best known as a fitness writer and a humorist. A monthly columnist for Shape magazine, Suzanne has also written articles for Health, Men's Fitness, Cooking Light, Outside and the Los Angeles Times, among others. Her fitness books include Fitness for Dummies, Weight-Training For Dummies, Fitness for Travelers and — new for 2005 — The Fat-Free Truth: Real Answers to the Fitness and Weight-loss Questions You Wonder About Most.

On the humor front, Suzanne is the author of many published essays as well as the acclaimed memoir The Curse of the Singles Table: A True Story of 1001 Nights Without Sex. (Yes, all that happened before she met Paul.) Praised by US Weekly and People magazine, Curse is being translated into seven languages, including Japanese, Russian and Dutch.

A former staff writer for the Daily News of Los Angeles and former senior editor at Shape magazine, Suzanne has taught feature-writing courses through the community-education programs at UCLA and Central Oregon Community College.
